We share our customers' concern about how those who grow and harvest their food are treated. Wholesum Family Farms has a long tradition of being involved in initiatives for fair treatment and food security for the families of people working hard to grow and harvest some of the world's most wholesome food.
Theojary Crisantes, Sr., recognized the unmet medical needs for Sinaloa vegetable farm workers many years ago while serving as president of the Valley of Culiacan Growers' Association. The medical assistance program he began for our family's employees was subsequently embraced as a model by other Mexican vegetable growers. We also offer free medical clinics to all the seasonal workers employed at our La Cruz farm.
Educating and Protecting Children
Wholesum Family Farms recognizes and shares the strong family values meaning so much to our employees. For us, caring for the families of those growing and harvesting your food especially involves ensuring the safety of their children. Since many of our full-time and seasonal employees choose to live on or near our farmland, we sponsor free daycare and schools for children of our workers.
Estrella Guia and their CARITAS Program
An obvious way for our family's farm to care for children in our communities is to provide them with fresh organic fruits and vegetables. Estrella Guia is an organization with a nutrition program, CARITAS, which we support by donating our organic cucumbers, peppers, and zucchinis. We also support Estrella Guia, a nonprofit aiding local children with brain injuries. Both of these nonprofit programs help guarantee food security and care for the children in our communities.
Sponsorship of Save the Children Mexico
Wholesum Family Farms is one of the proud sponsors of Save the Children Mexico. In 2009/2010, one of our farm employee's children was the national winner for Mexico in Save the Children's "International Day of Soap and Water" contest. She presented the theme "I care for and esteem myself" (Me quiero me cuido). Wholesum is proud of her accomplishment, and we take honor in being the only organic vegetable shipper from Mexico to help sponsor Save the Children Mexico in 2010.
